The short version, in his words
I trained first in clinical pharmacology, which is an unusual route into diabetes. It left me suspicious of claims and comfortable with primary sources, and it is why the slides I present are built rather than borrowed.
What I treat is not diabetes on one day and obesity on another. It is one metabolic problem in one person, usually a South Asian person whose body crosses the risk line at a lower weight than the textbooks used to allow for. The clinic I built, Caspian Healthcare, exists because that combined consultation does not fit into the standard three minutes.
The rest of my week goes into teaching it: more than two hundred talks and CMEs, a certificate course for doctors, and a series of books for patients that starts by taking the blame off them.
